A tax holiday for Malaysians? SST to come into effect only in 2-3 months, says Daim

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians may enjoy a short tax holiday of some kind, with the Sales and Services Tax (SST) only expected to be reintroduced in the next two to three months, according to Tun Daim Zainuddin.

The Government had earlier promised to set the Goods and Services Tax (GST) at zero-percent from June 1 onwards.

But SST will only be reintroduced later, since it will require legislation to be passed in Parliament.

“SST will be implemented soon,” Daim told reporters at Menara Iham here on Friday.

Daim, part of the Council of Eminent Persons established by Pakatan Harapan soon after it won the general election, said the Government expected to collect about RM30bil annually from SST.
