Warning to Traders – think twice before hiking prices

TUMPAT, March 7 (Bernama) — The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) will act against traders who raise prices at their whim when the goods and services tax (GST) is enforced on April 1.[br]

Its secretary general Datuk Seri Alias Ahmad said traders had been reminded to abide by the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2010.[br]

“We are ready and we will not compromise with any trader found to profiteer,” he told reporters after closing the Parent-Teachers Association AGM at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Mahmud Mahyiddin here Saturday.[br]

According to Alias, 86 per cent of the population have a good grasp of the workings of the GST system.[br]

Meanwhile, he said KPDNKK had carried out 395,000 inspections nationwide, through ‘Ops Catut’ which was launched early this year.[br]

He said warning notices were also issued to 157 traders with an inclination to profiteer. [br] — BERNAMA[br]
